Arson destroys two caravans and camper

Distressing news for caravan insurance customers came in over the weekend. And once again it is fire that brings that distress, with the deliberate destruction of caravans and other vehicles at an Atherton garage.
As covered by the local Leigh Reporter, one caravan on the forecourt of the Atherton MOT Centre was set on fire. The blaze spread to vehicles parked next to it, eventually destroying another caravan, a camper and a van. The fire was started on Sunday 29th January, at around 8.30pm.
The local fire brigade watch manager confirmed that this was being considered a case of arson and that police are investigating. The threat of propane gas cylinders is well known to caravan insurance owners and this caused problems for the emergency services too, having to keep people well away until the blaze was considered safe.
The owner of the garage, Simon Eskins, was quoted as saying that the damage extended to a sign, fencing and toilets on the garage. But he wanted people to know that the garage was unaffected and he was still operating the business from the same location. He had been looking after the vehicles which had been destroyed in the fire for their owners.
The garage owner is presumably hoping that all the vehicles that went up in the blaze were covered either by their owners' caravan insurance or his business cover.
