Caravan site has plans for longer season refused
Posted on February 12th 2010
Hawkswick Cote Caravan Park has had its plans to extend its opening season rejected by the local council. The plans consisted of extending the current season from the 1st of March until November 14th by 10 weeks allowing them to open for business as of the end of January. The park was confident of the plans after receiving backing from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, however the planning committee did not agree.
The committee had received concerns from the local public fearing the increase of the parks opening season would have a negative effect on nearby residents. Letters received claimed that with the increased opening times caravanners would be able to stay at the site for virtually the whole year, one resident said: "We do not feel that the semi-permanent residence of people at this site is desirable for the Littondale community, unless they contribute fully to the economy of the district through council tax as main residence or second home owners."
The site is currently undergoing an appeal against the decision.
