Caravan owners conned by sales man
Posted on February 04th 2009
A conman, who ripped off customers for a total sum on £165,000 has been jailed for 18 months after selling caravans on behalf of his trusting victims and pocketing the takings.
One victim, a butcher, is currently seeking compensation after his caravan was sold without him knowing for £10,000, none of which he received. The butcher had signed a contract with the conman, who was trading as Tourers of Grimsby, to sell his two year old holiday home for £15,995, however he would receive £15,000.
The butcher later found, after many lies from the conman that his caravan had been sold for £10,000. However he received a letter from a solicitor advising him that the man had gone bankrupt and he would never receive the money, because he had signed in to a contract the caravan was not classed as being stolen.
Police have discovered that this man was not the only one who was conned in to putting their trust in to the conman, who was previously trading as Caravan World. At least 40 people have become victim and the police are working with them to try and get some compensation for the money that they lost.
