Cornwall caravanners receive hostile reception
Posted on September 10th 2008
Caravanners in Cornwall have been receiving a less than enthusiastic reception following reports that a campervanner has been spotted throwing lavatory waste away on the beach.
According to the Cornish Guardian, two holidaymakers were left feeling "intimidated" by other motorists on a recent trip to the town of Marazion when drivers deliberately tried to keep them awake in the dead of night by honking their horns as they drove past.
Lynn and Den Blackmore said that, when they asked why they were facing so much hostility, they were told caravanners had a bad name in the area thanks to the antics of the aforementioned campervanner.
This was surprising, the couple said, given the warm welcome they normally receive from locals in the area.
"Our little campervan is like a second home to us. We've always found the local people helpful, friendly and pleased to see us. But our recent visit was quite different," Mrs Blackmore told the newspaper.
Mr and Mrs Blackmore's version of events is backed up by John Osborn, environmental protection officer at Penwith district council, who told the Cornish Guardian that complaints had been made about the behaviour of some caravan holidaymakers in the area.
