Flood alert from caravan parks

Posted on January 22nd 2008

The Environment Agency still has issued flood warnings for caravan park owners in the north-east of England.

The River Ure at Roecliffe Caravan Park, the river Ouse at Rowntree Park Caravan Park, the river Nidd at Riverside Caravan Park and Lorisholme Caravan Park on York Road, as well as Weir Caravan Park on the River Derwent, are all under warning of floods. Flood watch alerts and other details of cautions are in place and they can be found on the Environment Agency's website.

A spokesman for the agency told the BBC that parts of the region had received about 50mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

He said: "This is less than in summer 2007, but the rivers are saturated after several weeks of wet weather."

Water levels are receding slowly across the north of England today, but train lines are still disrupted by the flooding and roads are closed by fords.
