Go ahead for Operation Velopy

As the caravan season draws to a close, road analysts are left with the debris of many accidents left along Britain's highways and caravan insurance providers suffer many caravan claims. One recurring fact always remains, that when the summer holidays start the number of accidents involving caravans always increases.
This year motorway police in the Midlands have launched a new road safety campaign to highlight the dangers of caravans on the road, hoping that the increase awareness will benefit holidaymakers over the August bank holiday weekend.
The M5, the midland's busiest motorway, is set to bare the full front of the campaign as this notorious strip suffered over 1,000 accidents involving touring caravans in 2007.
Police where providing essential advice to caravan-towers, targeting the southbound traffic between the hours of 9.30am till 5.00pm and stopping vehicles at Strensham service station over the weekend. The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency was also on standby to inspect any caravan looking less than safe.
"The bank holiday weekend provides us with the perfect opportunity to meet drivers, share our knowledge and help keep motorway users safe," said sergeant Dean Caswell from the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG).
