Goodbye Hi-de-Hi
Posted on August 28th 2009
Only 4.87 million Britons made the crossing to foreign shores this year, the lowest number of trips since the holiday season in 2002. Haven Holidays on the other hand has recently launched a new report that has confirmed recent speculation that the 'stay-cation' has been the hottest new trend of the holiday season.
Not only has Haven Holidays see a 15 percent rise in the number of visitors that their caravan parks have received over these last school holidays, but they have also sold over 2500 more caravans in comparison to other years.
Of course this is good news for other connected industries; more caravan owners means that not only does the amount of caravan insurance quotations increase but it can also provide a boost to a previously floundering British tourism market.
Haven, part of the Bourne Leisure Group has sold more caravans in places like Cornwall and Wales, which have proved popular with other population sectors rather than the traditional Hi-de-Hi generation. Younger families are returning to campsites where they had to endure family holidays in cramped conditions to now find that caravans are fully equipped and comfy.
It would seem that although the credit crunch is causing the British population to reign in their holiday spending, the popularity of caravans has indeed been reaffirmed. Moreover, from an environmental point of view the decrease in the number of aeroplane journey's in favour for at-home holidays also means a few less tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions floating about in the atmosphere.
Insure My Caravan provides caravan insurance for thousands of caravan owners and has also seen a dramatic demand increase in the number of policies.
