Greenlaw 'needs' static caravan park extension

Posted on July 31st 2008

Extending the local caravan park would be a good way of boosting the economy of Greenlaw, it has been claimed.

The park currently has 190 pitches but its owner Chris Gregg is in the process of applying for permission to house a further 150 static homes, reports the Berwickshire News.

Mr Gregg's proposal has met with opposition from some local residents, but he told a public meeting he would not be the only one to benefit if he gets the go ahead.

He estimates that it would provide a £900,000 cash injection for Greenlaw's traders and result in an additional 170 jobs being created in a town that has seen several local businesses close in recent years.

"This is an opportunity for regeneration - I think Greenlaw should be crying out for this," said Mr Gregg.

Caravan insurance customers attracted by the idea of taking a berth at the extended park will, however, have to wait before making plans, as the local council is still to make a decision about Mr Gregg's scheme.
