Parents rescue children from flooded caravan
Posted on August 22nd 2008
A family managed to wade their way to safety as their caravan and two cars were destroyed by flash floods this weekend, it was reported.
The Coyles had been taking a break at Windsor caravan park in Newcastle and were asleep at 2am when they were woken by neighbours calling.
After waking, the Coyles found that the local river had burst its banks following heavy rain, and had flooded the caravan park. Mother of four, Collette Coyle managed to carry her ten month old son from the caravan, while dad Patrick carried the three older children aged ten, seven and four to safety.
"It was terrifying, I have never seen anything like it in my life. I am still in a state of shock thinking back on it. I held the baby and would not let anyone else hold him because I was afraid he would slip," Collette told the Lisburn Today.
"It was like a nightmare that I thought we were all going to wake up from."
There are concerns that flooding is on the rise in the UK, and may represent a real danger to caravan across the country.
