Protect your caravans during the wet weather
Posted on November 04th 2009
With the weather threatening to only get worse this week caravan owners will be worried over the safety of their static and touring caravans. 2007 saw a high number of caravans waterlogged after their caravan site was submerged in water of up to 6ft in places. The past week has been witness to some terrible weather washing away the promised Indian summer and instead increasing fears of flooding.
Caravan sites tend to be the worst affected during the bad weather as a majority are located near a river, stream or water bank. There are a few way in which we can avoid our caravans from being affected by the bad weather, for static's there are floating devices that can be attached to the van ensuring that if flooding does hit your site your van will simply float on the water, avoiding the worst water damage. This will also help in the insurance for your static caravan as having a floatation device fitted can reduce the chance of an insurer declining your policy due to the storage location being near a flood area.
For touring caravans the solution is less simple but can be more effective, the idea is to keep up to date with the conditions at the storage location so should the bad weather strike you can act quickly to move the van to higher ground or to a safer location.
