RAF site to be transformed in to caravan holiday retreat
Posted on October 09th 2009
Plans to turn a disused RAF site in Northumbria into a touring caravan park are underway providing pitches for 62 touring caravans and 50 tents.
The caravan park, which is hoped to be named the coast and castles touring park, will be placed on the disused RAF Boulmer administration site. The three and a half hectares will accommodate a reception area, toilet and shower facilities as well as some attractive landscaping; each caravan pitch will be private and made to look pleasing with planting and walkways.
If the plans go ahead, the tent area will be lowered, providing a shelter from the winds, this will also provide individual areas for the tents and caravans.
The old RAF site is currently very unattractive and with the introduction of the park the view will become more interesting. It will also provide extra income and job opportunities to local shops and pubs due to the increase in tourists, great news for the locals who have all been hit since the recession.
Plans for approval will be discussed by Northumberland County Council in December, and if accepted work will begin early next year.
