Stolen caravans recovered

Police in Dumphries and Galloway traced £90,000 of stolen caravans over the Easter weekend after carrying out ‘operation breakaway’ focusing on caravan crime and safety in the region.
The police, who were carrying out random checks on drivers in the region also carried out a two day visit to caravan parks making owners aware of crime prevention, fire safety and also personal safety, along with representatives from Dumphries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service.
The caravans that were rescued were found to be ones that had been stolen from other places in the UK and then ended up in the region. An astonishing 1,400 touring caravans are stolen in the UK every year and sold on to members of the public or the thieves place them on caravan sites around the country avoiding detection.
