UK holidays show big increase
Posted on November 11th 2009
VisitEngland have released figures that show that the number of Brits this year that chose to stay in the UK for their holiday rose by around 25% on that of 2008. The increase in the number of us staying ashore for our holidays also lead to an increase in the amount spent while on our staycations by an astonishing 16%.
July was the month that saw the most substantial figure where an extra 7.2 million extra nights where booked in hotels, hostels and caravan sites. The recession really has had a positive impact on caravan sites and companies with many Brits looking to either buy a caravan for their holidays or spend a week away on a site rather than travel abroad. The increase also meant that the average spend per holiday rose by 13%, generating more revenue for the UK market.
