Park homes
Park home is a new definition of what most people would consider a mobile home. Things have moved on since then and now park homes are spacious purpose built bungalows, that offer luxury living for a 1/3 of the price of a standard construction home.
A lot of people see a park home as a step up in terms of luxury living as all the modern park homes are built in purpose designed factories offering new curtains, carpets, fixtures and fittings.
What is a park home?
Simply put a park home is a single story bungalow style property, usually timber framed over a steel base with the exterior being rendered and long life steel roof tiles. They are basically bungalows and you wouldn't notice without inspection that the park home was anything other than a normal home.
Most people build around them, either stone patios or decking and have small gardens. Add to this double glazing, upvc doors and even conservatories and you will begin to see the benefits of the park home lifestyle.
What are the maximum sizes
There is legislation allowing the size of park homes, more as a safety requirement than anything else. These laws are always under review as new construction methods and changes in modern living are undertaken.
The current maximums are:
- The length of a park home can vary in size with an average around 30 to 45 feet but can be up to 60 feet long depending on the park where the home is purchased.
Buying a park home
Big shout to start with, there is no stamp duty to pay!! As with static caravans, you need to find a place and then a park that you want to live in. Talk to locals, then talk to residents. If the residents are happy you will know straight away, if they are not, you will easily see the downsides. The residents should sell the park to you, if they don't, walk away.
The government have put together a booklet which will answers many of the questions you have and let you know your responsibilities and those of the site owner. You can download a copy by clicking here. As with all homes you should protect yourself with park home insurance.
